Post-Play Discussion
Following "Hold These Truths" at ACT Theatre

Friday, August 1, 2014 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Watch a performance of "Hold These Truths" and stay for a special post-play panel with UW professor Stephen Sumida, documentary filmmaker Frank Abe, and playwright Jeanne Sakata.

"Hold These Truths" stars Joel de la Fuente in Jeanne Sakata's one man solo show, inspired by the true story of University of Washington student Gordon Hirabayshi. Gordon agonizes over U.S. Government orders to forcibly remove and mass incarcerate all people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast.

As he fights to reconcile his country's betrayal with his passionate belief in the U.S. Constitution, Hirbayashi journeys toward a greater understanding of America's triumphs-and a confrontation with its failures.

The post-play discussion features Stephen Sumida who was instrumental in bringing Sakata's play to the Seattle stage; Frank Abe whose film "Conscience and the Constitution" chronicles the Japanese American camp and draft resisters of WWII; and Jeanne Sakata, the playwright of "Hold These Truths".

Join the conversation about the play, the history it explores, the lives it reveals, and what lessons we can still learn from it today.

Buy tickets for the performance (post-play discussion included) here.
