Tagore in Seattle
Celebrating renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore

Thursday, September 1, 2016 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Tagore in Seattle

Thursday, September 1, 2016

6pm, Tateuchi Story Theatre, FREE

Three Bengali-born singers, one joining from Calcutta, and a pair of artists who are frequent visitors to India from Seattle will present an evening of music both live and recorded, images old and new, to honor the visit here in 1916 by Rabindranath Tagore.

Tagore was the first non-Caucasian to win the Nobel Prize, which he did three years before coming to Seattle to give a talk, his first stop on a national speaking tour. Tagore was a renowned poet, composer, philosopher, educator, playwright, painter, novelist and children’s book author. The evening will consider what his visit here meant a hundred years ago, and what might it mean today.

Please join Deepa Banerjee, Swati Banerjee, Donald Fels, Robert Millis and accompanists for a lively evening.
